kasa lempikirjoja. suuria rakkauksia, joita en suostu raahaamaan vintille säilöön, vaan haluan ne kaikki näkyville kirjahyllyyn josta voin niitä hellin katsein ihailla.

1. Haruki Murakami - Kafka on the Shore

""Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions. You change direction but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn't something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something inside of you. So all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn't get in, and walk through it, step by step. There's no sun there, no moon, no direction, no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up into the sky like pulverized bones. That's the kind of sandstorm you need to imagine. "

2. Mondon Lontoo-opas

tämän kanssa tehtiin viimeinen Lontoon reissu. Hyviä juttuja, joita ei jokaisesta matkaoppaasta löydy.

3. Hunter S. Thompson - Pelon valtakunta

"Morality is temporary, wisdom is permanent."

4. Hunter S. Thompson - Fear and loathing in Las Vegas

Hunteria löytyy paljon. Ja ihan syystä. Lempi kirjailijani, suuri vaikuttajani.

"There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda... You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning... And that, I think, was the handle — that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply PREVAIL. There was no point in fighting — on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave... So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark — that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back."

5. Frederic Beigbeder - Love last three years

"For most of my life I have had only one aim ; to self-destruct, but once, just once, there was a moment when I wanted to be happy. It's pathetic, I'm ashamed to admit it, but once I felt the tawdry desire to be happy. And this, as I have learned , is by far the surest path to self-destruction."

6. Nick McDonell - Twelve

"So you are born in the capital of the world and you can never escape and that’s how it is because that’s how everyone wants it to be. It is all about want. No one needs anything here. It is about when you wake up in the morning and the snow is already coming down and it is bright between the buildings where the sun falls but already dark where the shadows are, and it is all about want. What do you want? Because if you don’t want something, you’ve got nothing. You are adrift, you are washed away, and then buried under the snow and the shadows. And when, in the spring, the snow melts, no one will remember where you were frozen and buried, and you will no longer be anywhere."

7. Bill Hicks - Love all the people

"The world is like a ride at an amusement park. It goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey - don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride..." But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that. But it doesn't matter because: It's just a ride. And we can change it anytime we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love."

8. Frederic Beigbeder - Apua anteeksi

"Mikä kauhea ajatus että muut voisivat kohdella minua niin kuin minä kohtelen heitä"

9. B. Wing - There is a dark dark woods inside my head

"so from now on, i have decided my story is not about a miserable person who was trapped in a house swalloing all kind of medicine, but find infinite fun and beaty in anything, any little thing. not sure doing this could help me forget the loneliness or escape from my misery or just distract me so i would not want to run away. i dont know. but anyway, i am the one telling story here. so thanks to my damaged brain. you are the most exquisite."

10. Jim Al-Khalili - Black Holes, Wormholes and Time Machines

"Do you know: What might happen if you fall into a black hole? That the Universe does not have an edge? That the reason it gets dark at night is proof of the Big Bang? That cosmic particles time-travel through the atmosphere defying death? That our past, present and future might all coexist "out there"?"

11. Keith Richards - Life

"I never thought I was wasted, but I probably was."

12. Dian Fossey - Sumuisten vuorten gorillat

“There are times when one cannot accept facts for fear of shattering one's being. As I listened to Ian's news, all of Digit's life, since my first meeting with him as a playful little ball of black fluff ten years earlier, passed through my mind. From that moment on, I came to live within an insulated part of myself.”

13. Jari Mäkinen - Avaruuslentäjän käsikirja / Astronautiikan aakkoset

"Avaruuslentäjän käsikirja' antaa käytännön neuvoja avaruuslennoista haaveileville: miten avaruuteen pääsee, mitä siellä tehdään ja kuinka sieltä pääsee takaisin Maahan. Kirjan toinen osio 'Astronautiikan aakkoset' tekee selkoa helposti luettavasti avaruustekniikan perusasioista."

heti luettuani että tälläinen kirja on olemassa, ryntäsin kirjastoon hakemaan aarteen lainaan. luin sen yhdessä illassa, vaikka kirja on paksu ja oikeastaan pelkkää asiaa. tämä siirtyi nopeasti ostoslistan kärkeen.

14. David McCandless - Tieto on kaunista

15. ASTRONOMICA

576 sivun aikana käydään läpi koko aurinkokunta, tähdet, galaksit, nykykosmologia, astronomian historia, avaruustutkimus ja opetetaan yötaivaan tarkkailu oikein.
iso ja törkeän painava opus. upeat kuvat. upea teksti. rakastuin.

"When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."
